Welcome to WEEK THREE of the One Room Challenge Linking Party hosted by Calling it Home!!!  If you’re just joining me, check out my progress from Week 2.

This week has been… all about that paint, that paint… no trouble!  I figured if I sang those “adjusted” lyrics to Meghan Trainor’s song, I’d get that powder room painted quickly, easily, no problem.  Overall, it worked.

I had a little help.

Painting Assistance

I started after I put the kids to bed by painting all the edges, but the next day, in daylight, I could see that the edges would need a second coat.

Let me introduce you to my help for round two of painting:

Oh, the babysitting powers of Nick Jr!  In about 40 minutes, I was able to go over all of the edges a second time, this time in daylight, ensuring that I wouldn’t need a third coat.

That night I was able to roll the walls, and this is what I got:

Powder Room Blue Walls

Yes, it’s dark.  My husband is fretting about it being “too dark”.  He even *gasp* suggested I source a new light fixture!  (I know I should really take him up on that – but part of me wants to prove to him that I can stick to our original budget agreement.  The power of saying I told you so might outweigh the power of a new fixture. For now.)  My solution is to grab a new light bulb and see if increasing the wattage will help the low light situation.  I’ll let you know how that turns out.

I’m pretty happy with the Behr “Skipper” blue.  I opted for eggshell because I wasn’t totally in love with the satin finish we chose for the Mudroom Makeover.

That’s all I got, folks!  Stay tuned!

Let’s hear it for week two!  Woohoo!  If you’re just joining me, today marks Week 2 of the One Room Challenge Linking Event hosted by Calling it Home.  We’re given six weeks to transform a room.  I’ve chosen our powder room.  Here’s a recap from Week 1, and here’s a “before” photo:

Powder Room 3

What did I get done in the last seven days?

-Deconstructed the bathroom (took down art, t.p. holder, towel ring)

-Prepped for paint (taped all edges)

-Purchased paint (Shhhh… don’t tell my husband!  I originally thought that I had leftover ceiling paint from the Mudroom Makeover, which is the same color as the new powder room color… but, alas, I couldn’t find it anywhere and time is of the essence!  I just hopped over to Home Depot to get another gallon.)

Behr – Skipper

-Purchased a new shade from Select Blinds (this will be the 3rd shade I’ve purchased from them, I’ve been very happy with the product).

I wish I had more to show you, but this was a big “prep” week.  Hopefully, I’ll have more to show you next week!

Be sure to check out all the other One Room Challenge participants – both the Invited Participants on Wednesdays and the Linking Participants on Thursdays!

Linda at Calling it Home hosts a biannual One Room Challenge in which people share their progress over six weeks while redoing a room.  Back in October/November I participated in her link-up party and chose to makeover my mudroom (see the before and after here).  Today we are all sharing what our rooms look like today.

Pursuing Vintage Mudroom Makeover Update Full View

It’s only been a few months, and I had considered the room “finished” at the end of the six weeks, so there haven’t been too many changes.  As the weather has turned horrible wintery, we’ve added winter coats and boots.

Pursuing Vintage Mud Room Makeover Update Art Wall

The kids’ art wall has been fairly successful, however you’ll see that I’ve gotten a little lazy and have been “layering” the art pieces.  My kids are bringing home an average of four new masterpieces a week, and it was getting a little tiring moving them all around.  That, and my kids freak when I take something down.  They don’t seem to care that the new work goes up, they just get sad that the old work is coming down.  So, unless I wait until the wee hours of the night when they’re asleep, it’s been easier to just put the new masterpiece on top of the old.  (Isn’t that what great artists used to do?  Paint new works over old canvasses?!).

The biggest change was a recent one.  I’m always moving art around as I acquire new pieces.  And I am SO pleased with this move!

Pursuing Vintage Mudroom Makeover Update Kerry Steele Art

I moved my very first Kerry Steele painting into the mudroom.  I feel as though it is complemented by the wall color and the crystal chandelier.

Isn’t it just fabulous??!  You must check out other work by Kerry and her design blog Design du Monde.

So, that’s about it.  No huge changes.  Just one gorgeous one!
