Week 6 of the Calling it Home One Room Challenge is here!  I’m so happy to have another room in my home “lookin’ goooood”!  Let’s dive right in!

Week 1  Week 2  Week 3  Week 4  Week 5

I started with this (main level powder room immediately off the past ORC mudroom) :

Powder Room 3          Powder Room 2

The goals of the makeover were:

Make the powder room flow with the mudroom

Allow the gallery walls to change with time as my husband and I find & add new art

Show a little sense of humor with our “Washington DC” theme

Spend as little $$ as possible

I feel that I accomplished those goals.  The total cost of the makeover was under $250, which includes new hand towels, soap dispenser, paint, and custom window shade.

Stop talking, Kristen, and show us the photos!!!

It’s not a huge transformation – but I’m really happy with it, the paint makes a huge difference, and I know that it will continue to evolve as we continue to search out DC art and memorabilia that has meaning to us (or just makes us laugh).

A big Thank You to Linda at Calling it Home!  Please take a look at all of the other ORC Linking Participants and the 20 Official ORC Participants.  There are some truly wonderful makeovers and you’ll be inspired by all of them.

It is Week 5 of the One Room Challenge linking event hosted by Linda at Calling it Home.  If you’re just joining me, you can see my plans and progress (Week 2Week 3, and Week 4) for this crazy fun event designed to kick our butts motivate us to finish designing and decorating a room.  In six weeks.  Did I mention that?  (I jest, Linda!  Thanks to you for motivating me to finish two essential spaces in the last year.  It will really make a huge difference in my home!)

Last week was a bit of a dud since I had been traveling and basically didn’t get anything done.  This week was all about the accessories.  I was DIY and “Homegoods Happy”.

I chose these coral pink hand towels to coordinate with the bench cushion in the mudroom.  And how could I resist an acrylic soap dispenser?

I also decided that George Washington needed a little makeover.

I also decided to take my dad’s advice and get some letters to include.  (See Dad, I DO listen to you once and awhile!).

I found these little wood letters at the craft store and think they’ll look cute on the shelf above the toilet.

George and the wood letters got a coat of this Rust-oleum paint.  But to be honest, I wasn’t that impressed with it.  I felt like I used a lot of paint to cover those three little things.

Still to do before next week’s final reveal:

– Touch up paint

– Hang window shade

– Edit / Rearrange art

Please take a look at all of the other One Room Challenge and One Room Challenge Linking participants.  There is some really great, inspirational work going on!

Don’t forget to check back here next week for the final reveal!

Confession: I’ve been out of town on a whirlwind trip vising family in Texas and Chicago this last week.  I got NUTHIN’ done since the Week 3 update.  (Does it count that my window shade was delivered?)

I have a lot of work to do this next week.

Please check back next week!  And in the meantime, take a look at the people who were WAY more productive than me this week at Calling it Home!
