Week 4 of the One Room Challenge is here!!!  Already!!! (Saying this with a smile, trying to hide my “oh-crap-how-am-I-going-to-finish-in-two-weeks???!!!!” face…).

If you’re just joining me, WELCOME!  You can check out the big plan here to quickly catch up.  Bottom line: I’m making changes to a screen porch, a back porch, and a front porch/entry.

The biggest project involved a little bit of painting – and I don’t want to give it all away yet, but here’s a sneak peek:

I’m so excited about it!  I can’t wait to show you the whole thing on reveal day!

My hubby added these flower boxes, which will look adorable with some flowers.  Leaning towards red geraniums since they require little up-keep and will bring out the red in the door.

We also received the pillows and rug that I’d ordered last week.  I love how they look with the rattan, and I think the rug is perfect for the price, although I probably could have gone a bit larger.

ORC - Porch Makeover - Screen Porch - Pursuing Vintage

We’re approaching crunch-time.  Before next week we need to:

-Paint the back porch chairs

-Paint the shutters

-Fill all the planters and flower boxes with flowers, etc.

-Shop my own Pursuing Vintage Shop inventory for pieces to finish off the screen porch

There are definitely other things that need to be done before the “big reveal”, so if we can complete those tasks in the next seven days, I’ll feel like we’ll be good to go!

Please be sure to stop by Calling it Home and check out the other Linking Participants and ORC Official Participants.

Thanks for stopping by and checking in on my progress!  This is Week 3 of Calling it Home’s One Room Challenge.  You can catch up on my big plan of attack from last week, but the short version is that I’m giving all three of my porches a makeover.  The biggest project is the screen porch, which requires some construction along with adding decor.  The smaller projects are smaller in scale, but involve painting and adding in some details.

Here is a “before” photo:

Last week we cleaned it out and removed the doors.

So what did I get done this week?  Some construction, baby!

New Door on Porch / ORC / Pursuing Vintage

I have to admit this one, teensy, tiny thing.  We had a contractor do the framing and door installation.  Shhhhhh.  My husband and I recognized, that due to time constraints and the scope of what needed to be done, it was better to just hire someone to do that job.

We painted the floor a nice gray. We also painted the concrete base of the porch (to the left and right of the stairs) to match the house color.  (Do you think we should paint the concrete steps the same color?  Or leave them “raw”?  I’m debating…)

I ordered the cushions and rug that will go with my rattan loveseat and chairs.  Target has a really big selection of outdoor pillows, cushions, and rugs, and all at great prices.

I just love paisley, and thought the calming colors were pretty and classic.  I chose a dark and neutral rug to help hide dirt!
Next week we’ll be tackling some painting.  The back porch door needs to be painted blue.  My husband will start working on painting the shutters (pray for some nice weather!).
The rug and pillows should arrive, so then I’ll get to start turning that side porch into a nice space with some added decor elements.
There are a few others working on outdoor space as link-up participants in the ORC, be sure to check them out, along with all the other fun ORC projects!

If you’re new to Pursuing Vintage, welcome!  I usually blog about on-trend vintage decor, and I also have a SHOP stocked full of great pieces (check it out!).  But for the next few weeks I’ll be participating in some craziness that involves trying to makeover a space in six short weeks.

Admittedly, I kind of missed the boat with Calling it Home’s fabulous One Room Challenge “Week 1” link up.  By “missed the boat”, I mean, I kind of forgot that Week 1 was happening, and now kind of need to catch up.  Fast.

I really have no excuse.  This isn’t my first rodeo – you can see my two previous One Room Challenges here (ORC Fall 2014 and ORC Fall 2013).  However, this is my first Spring ORC, and I guess I’ll just say that I was sidetracked by the warming weather and onset of Easter.

So here we are at Week 2.  I’m going to squish my Week 1 & Week 2 together.  Buckle up, here we go!

Check out my three porches.  They all need a makeover.

I’m most looking forward to the Side Porch Makeover because it will have the most decor.  And decor is pretty.  Decor is fun.

Screen Porch Makeover / Pursuing Vintage / ORC

I was reallllly wanting to do white cushions, but that porch gets filthy with pollen and dust and whatever blows in.  I figured I would drive myself crazy trying to keep white cushions clean.  I also want this to be a kid-friendly space.  The porch opens into my kitchen, and I envision letting my boys play out there while I cook dinner.  I thought a small kids table would allow them a place to eat and play.  The vintage rattan set is something I ran across while out thrifting one day – I immediately knew it would work wonderfully in this space.

Even though I missed posting Week 1, we did get work done!  My husband and I started some work on the screen porch.

We cleared out the junk!  We ripped off the two odd doors (one opened in and the other opened out – they were very difficult to use and old and warped).  The plan is to install a single door (That’s it in the photo! Ready for action!) We will center it with the steps, so we’ll need to re-frame and screen the left-over spaces.  We also need to clean the floor and re-paint it.  I’d like to paint the cement foundation and the steps the same color as our house – just to make it all blend in.  Some plants around that area will help, too.

My plan for this next week is to at least:

-Complete the construction on the screen porch

-Complete the painting in the screen porch

-Acquire cushions & rug

Whadda you think?  Can I get this done in the next FIVE weeks?!  Crazy, right?  I’m going to try.  The goal is to get as much done as possible.  I’d love to start summer with the exterior of my home being in tip-top shape.  (Of course, if I put this much energy into the exterior – I’d better not let anyone see the mess that is sure to become the interior!)
