Thanks for stopping by and checking in on my progress! This is Week 3 of Calling it Home’s One Room Challenge. You can catch up on my big plan of attack from last week, but the short version is that I’m giving all three of my porches a makeover. The biggest project is the screen porch, which requires some construction along with adding decor. The smaller projects are smaller in scale, but involve painting and adding in some details.
Here is a “before” photo:
Last week we cleaned it out and removed the doors.
So what did I get done this week? Some construction, baby!
I have to admit this one, teensy, tiny thing. We had a contractor do the framing and door installation. Shhhhhh. My husband and I recognized, that due to time constraints and the scope of what needed to be done, it was better to just hire someone to do that job.
We painted the floor a nice gray. We also painted the concrete base of the porch (to the left and right of the stairs) to match the house color. (Do you think we should paint the concrete steps the same color? Or leave them “raw”? I’m debating…)
I ordered the cushions and rug that will go with my rattan loveseat and chairs. Target has a really big selection of outdoor pillows, cushions, and rugs, and all at great prices.
Porch looks great! I don’t know how you get all this done with the boys your busy schedule. I’m looking forward to seeing how the rest of the makeover goes.
It looks SO fresh and clean now and I’m LOVING the colours and pattern of those cushions! They work perfectly with the rug!
What a cute little porch! Looking great!
Kristen I love, love your choices, the soft gray and the paisley cushions are just right with the rug.
I would probably paint the stairs as well, just me though!

Looking good! I think we picked out the same rug! I would paint the stairs even though it might be a pain to upkeep. Maybe you could put some type of tread on them? Do you live near an Ikea? They have these really cool wooden patio/deck cover squares. That might look really great too!
It looks so good so far! I would paint the concrete steps too but whatever you decide, I’m sure it’ll look great! 🙂 Can’t wait to see the finished product, hope you’re having a great week!
Looks amazing!! I love porch makeovers cause it so improves the curb appeal and neighbors and homeowners both win! love what you have done and don’t feel bad about getting a contractor.. he did a great job
and I would, without a doubt, 100%, paint the stairs to match!!!
Great work this week. Love the cushions and rug combo. I would agree with others that I’d paint the stairs to match.
About your question about the stairs. I would buy some pressure treated wood and build wider steps to cover the whole length of the front area and to hide the concrete steps. I love the possiblity to sit on the stairs and also to have some flowers on the steps and that could fit if you widen the stairs. Perhaps hard to fit in to this challange. Good luck!
Hi Kristen, I’m featuring your porch Mood Board today on my blog at http://www.mbzinteriors.com Thanks for contributing, it was good to have you and your creativity! Sincerely, Mary Beth at MBZ Interiors
looks fantastic! I think the steps look fine as is, but I think I would paint them to make them disappear, so all you saw was that gorgeous new door.
